Regime suppressive forces all operate in plainclothes

Iranian regime's plainclothes agents hunting down protestors

According to reports obtained from inside the Iranian regime, paramilitary Bassij units, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its special intelligence unit, and Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) agents, all operate in plain clothes. They are all under the command of the so-called Sarallah base. The command unit of the base is located at a Bassij compound in Meghdad, which is at the heart of the protests.

A Bassij commander in Tehran has said, “All of the forces are under a single command structure just like the war era [1980-1988]. Plain-clothes agents are organized as a brigade commanded by Mojtaba Khamenei [mullahs’ Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s son].”

The Bassij commander also pointed to the rifts and disarray among the regime’s forces and said, “During the riots of two weeks ago, there was no coordination between the Bassij and other forces (i.e. the State Security Forces and the intelligence agents). This even led to these forces arresting one another. In one instance, the bodyguard of Morteza Tamaddon, Tehran’s governor, was arrested by plain-clothes agents.”
