Uprising detainees tortured to death in prisons

Monday, 06 July 2009

People arrested and imprisoned during the recent uprising in Iran have been placed under barbaric torture and some have been killed in the process.

Reports also quotes one of the guards who is serving a mandatory term as a soldier at the notorious Evin prison in Tehran as saying that in a restricted area run by the paramilitary Bassij and the intelligence unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the detainees are placed under horrendous forms of torture.

“We are all sick of hearing the screams and shrieks of those under torture,” the prison guard added. “Every morning, on average, ambulances take away 10 people killed under torture.”
