8 Year Prison Term for Abdollah Momeni
Abdollah Momeni, the detained spokesman of the Adavr Tahkim Vahdat Organization, was handed an 8 year prison sentence. Momeni’s wife announced the news and said: “He has been sentenced to 2 years in prison for previous charge of acting against national security and 6 years for taking part in post election protests. He never participated in any gathering”.
Momeni was arrested on July 22nd, 2009 and detained in solitary confinement in Evin. He was subjected to harsh physical and psychological torture during his detention and had to make false confessions against self during the show trials. Momeni suffers from kidney problems and is currently detained in Evin Prison.
Salman Sima Arrested
Azad University student named Salman Sima was arrested this morning as he was walking out of his home. In the past few days, agents had attempted several times to arrest Sima at his house but had to go away after they could not find him at home.
Sima was suffering from a severe flu at the time of his arrest and his family is worried about his health condition.
Court Hearing for Safayi-Farahani Postponed
Court hearing for Mohsen Safayi-Farahani scheduled for today has been postponed. The defense attorney, Hooshang Babaipoor, announced news of the delay and said: “We were scheduled to appear before Judge Salavti at the 15th branch of the Revolutionary Court this morning. I went to the court as scheduled but, for unknown reasons, my client was not brought in from Evin. Therefore, the trial has been postponed”.
Safayi-Farahani has been in detention since his arrest on June 20th, 2009.
Latest News on Arab-Sorkhi
Arab-Sorkhi remains in prison without being allowed prison visits. Arab-Sorkhi’s wife, Maryam Sharbatdar-Ghods, who announced the news added: “Last Wednesday, Mr. Arab-Sorkhi’s lawyer went to see the judge to follow up on the case and inquire about the reasons of prison visit being denied to him. The judge called the prison to inquire about the reasons”.
According to, Sharbatdar-Ghods, prison officials told the judge that Arab-Sorkhi’s family could go to the prison to visit him. The family was then notified by the lawyer and tried to call the prison to confirm the news. They were told by prison officials they will be called once necessary coordination steps are taken. They have yet to call the family.
Arab-Sorkhi has been in detention since his arrest on July 7th, 2009.
Reza Khademi Sentenced to Death
Reza Khademi who is one of the accused in the post election trials was sentenced to death which makes him the fifth person to receive a death sentence after the presidential election. His codefendant, Naser Abdol-Hosseini was previously sentenced to death. Khademi was arrested and accused of having ties to Mojahedin-e-Khalgh Organization.
During the show trials, Khademi confessed to having been involved in anti government activities. Evidence that became public later showed that his confessions were all part of a rehearsed scenario, designed by his interrogators, who had promised to release him if he complied.
No News on the Fates of Detained Shiraz Students
Several Shiraz University students, who were arrested when security forces stormed the campus on November 4th, are still being detained. Saeed Rezai, Ahmad Aref, Khabir Safarpoor, Ayoub Poor-Fathi, Ehsan Poor-Soltan and Abolharai and several other students are being held in Adel-Abad prison in Shiraz.
A students’ protest at Shiraz University on November 4th, ended in violence when Basiji, plainclothes and intelligence forces who were being helped by the special guards, entered the University campus. Videos which have been published show security forces pummeled violently the students who were part of the protest.
Ali Nejati Arrested
Ali Nejati, member of the Haft Tapeh workers’ union. Was arrested and taken to Dezful prison.
Nejati has been repeatedly arrested and summoned to court over the past few months.
Shabnam Madad-Zadeh Suffers from Chest Pain
Shabnam Madad-Zadeh’s Chest Pain Ignored by Evin Officials

Shabnam Madad-Zadeh, senior member of Tahkim Vahdat organization, suffers from chest pain after being held for 268 days in Evin. Madad-Zadeh has gone several times to Evin’s clinic asking for medical help but was denied treatment each time. Prison officials refuse to take necessary steps to provide medical care to Madad-Zadeh who is reportedly in critical condition.
Madad-Zadeh has been detained since her arrest in February 2009 and her trial was postponed 4 times.
Latest News on Morteza Asadi
While Morteza Asadi’s case has been sent to the security branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court, there is still no information on the whereabouts of the detained student activist. The defense attorney, Oliyaifard, who represents Asadi told HRA: “He is being investigated by the security branch 3 of the Magistrate Court. Neither I nor his family has been told how long the investigations will last”.
Asadi was arrested 6 weeks ago. He last called his family 4 days ago and is being held incommunicado since.
