Bitterly Cold Prison Cell Worsens Fariba Pajooh’s Health Problems

90 days after her arrest, the journalist and blogger, Fariba Pajooh remains detained and in critical mental state.

HRA- the prisoners’ rights unit of HRA reports that the detained journalist, Fariba Pajooh, remains detained in Evin prison with no immediate resolution in sight. Contrary to claims made by officials confirming the conclusion of her interrogations, Pajooh’s case has not yet been sent to court and she remains in limbo.

The bitter cold temperature of prison cell has added to her existing problems, leaving her in a desperate mental and physical state. She is denied access to newspapers or any news from outside.

Pajooh’s family was able to visit her yesterday through the glass divider of the visitation cabin. She is denied face-to-face visits with her family despite a permission which was previously granted.

Her family and her lawyer have repeatedly sought information from the prosecutor’s office but were told each time that their presence is not needed and the officials will follow up on the case themselves.

Fariba Pajooh was arrested at his parents’ house on August 22nd, 2009 by agents from the Intelligence Ministry. She was detained in solitary confinement for one month. Pajooh has been subjected to verbal abuse by prison guards and pressured into making false confessions.
