More than one week after Morteza Asadi’s arrest, the Revolutionary Court claims it has no information on the investigation process.
HRA- The prisoners’ rights unit of HRA reports that Morteza Asadi, who was arrested on November 9th, 2009 by agents from the Intelligence Ministry, has not yet been heard from. Asadi is a Master’s student in Allameh University’s Cultural Studies department.
The family was told by the judge at the investigation unit of the Revolutionary Court, the investigation and interrogation process would take 10 days. Yet, when the family went back to inquire about the case, court officials claimed they had no information on the investigation process.
Article 132 of the Constitution states: “No one may be arrested except by the order and in accordance with the procedure laid down by law. In case of arrest, charges with the reasons for accusation must, without delay, be communicated and explained to the accused in writing, and a provisional dossier must be forwarded to the competent judicial authorities within a maximum of twenty-four hours so that the preliminaries to the trial can be completed as swiftly as possible”.
