With only a few days left until Student Day on the 16th of Azar (December 7th), student activists in Tabriz have been facing an unprecedented wave of pressure techniques by the local and University authorities.
HRA- The Students Unit of HRA reports that, 2 Tabriz University student activists, Rasoul Alinejad and Behrooz Faridi have been moved to the Tabriz Central Prison. Alinejad and Faridi who were both arrested on November 18th, 2009 for unknown reasons, were expected to be released on bail last Sunday but the judge in charge of their cases refused to let the bail be posted and extended their remand order for another 10 days.
In addition, Tabriz University and local Intelligence authorities have upped the pressure on student activists. On Tuesday, December 1st, 2009, more than 50 students were summoned to the disciplinary committee of the university. Reports suggest that 6 students were suspended for 2 semesters so far as a result.
Following the November 4th protests, several student activists including Behnam Nikzad, former member of the university’s student council and Mousa Saket, the secretary of the Advar Tahkim Vahdat Organization in Azarbayjan province, were arrested. Saket and Nikzad were both released later.
