Until the release of all imprisoned journalists- Bahman Ahmadi Amooyi, a journalist and economic analyst has been sentenced to seven years and four months in prison, in addition to 34 lashes.

Bahman Ahmadi Amooyi was tried on December 11th, in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court. The presiding judge was Mr. Pirabbas, and the lawyer representing Mr. Amooyi was Ms. Farideh Gheyrat.

Mr. Amooyi was arrested along with his wife Zhila Baniyaghoob in their house during the middle of night on June 20th. He was held in prison six months before his trial. He is still imprisoned in ward 350 of Evin Prison.

Hi lawyer Ms. Gheirat has said before that 20 days after his arrest a bail was set for his release, but the release was never executed. Once she learned of the bail, she went to the court many times to secure the release of her client, but the officials at the Revolutionary Court continued to tell her that the Mr. Amooyi’s case was missing.

According to Ms. Gheyrat, after numerous visits to the court and receiving the same response about the missing file, it was suddenly announced in November that the case had been referred to the court and a trial will be held.

Gheyrat is planning to go to the Revolutionary Court to review the court ruling and launch an appeal process.

Mr. Amooyi who is an economic journalist has worked with many reformist newspapers. His roles included economic editor of Sarmyah, a newspaper focusing on economic issues. He was a critic of the Ahmadinejad government’s economic plans.
