Committee of Human Rights Reporters – After seven months, Dr. Mohammad Sharif, the lawyer for Abdolah Momeni, a Spokesperson of Alumni Organization, has finally been able to access his client’s file. According to reports, this political activist’s file has been sent to Branch 36 of Appeals Court.
Dr. Mohammad Sharif has expressed that he had not even been able to meet with Mr. Momeni to defend him in the initial trial.
Abdolah Momeni was arrested on June 20, 2009 in the headquarters of Free Citizen (Mehdi Karoubi’s human rights and democracy support center) in Vanak square. Reports indicate that he was physically abused in prison.
After the staged trials against the participants of the post-election demonstrations, Mr. Momeni was met with a heavy verdict of eight years probationary imprisonment.
