Savage Attack on Defenseless Prisoners at Gohardasht Prison by Prison Guards

Savage Attack on Defenseless Prisoners at Gohardasht Prison by Prison Guards

Based on reports received by Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran, last night the prison guards at Gohardasht Prison attacked without provocation and ruthlessly beat the prisoners in section 4. They took the defenseless prisoners to the prison’s yard in the winter’s cold and forced them to remove their clothes.

After the prisoners removed their clothes, the guards attacked them with batons. The beatings lasted a long time. The savage attack and act of torture was conducted under the supervision of Kermani and Faraji, the head and the deputy of the prison’s intelligence office. More than 30 of the prison guards participated in the brutal assault, and they were headed by an individual called Asghar Sameeinejhad.

Currently, many political prisoners are being held in section 4 of Gohardasht prison (located in Karaj, a suburb in Tehran). Among the detained is Mr. Mansour Asanloo, the head of the Bus Drivers Union, Ali Saremi (sentenced to death), Saeed Massouri, Shir-Mohammad Rezaee, Mohammad Ali Mansouri, Arzhang Davoodi, Afshin Baymani, Saleh Kohandel, Ali Moazi, Hood Yazerloo, Misaq Yazdan Nejhad, Mansoor Radpoor, Mostafa Ghoslani, and Morteza Ghoslani.

The savage and inhumane attack was conducted in order to frighten prisoners, but the prisoners do not succumb to bullying by prison guards anymore.

The attacks were ordered by Ali Haj-Kazem and Ali Mohammadi, director and deputy director of Gohardasht Prison.

Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran condemns these atrocious and inhumane attacks on defenseless prisoners and asks from the Human Rights High Commissioner (in the UN) to act urgently to end the systematic use of torture in Iran’s prisons.
